Oro Grande Trail, Dillon, Co.

Colorful Colorado along the Oro Grande Trail

It’s time to mine the gold in the mountains!  No, we aren’t heading to the gold mines of Colorado, we are talking about the fall colors for the aspen turning in the autumn brisk air.  One of the best locations so far this year has been the aptly named Oro Grande Trail which happens to be just behind our place in Dillon, Colorado.  This trail contours along the ridge just to the east of Dillon Lake, so the views of the lake, the Gore Range, and of course the aspen are spectacular.  As usual, we will let the pictures and captions speak for themselves which include a snippet of artsy historical photos to whet your appetite.

Suzie biking up the Oro Grande Trail. That’s Quandary Peak in the background, one of the many 14nrs we have climbed over the years.

I couldn’t resist taking some artsy shots of the remnants of an old sawmill we encountered on the trail. This, I believe, is the clutch pedal to switch gears on the sawmill.

I love the multiple different hues of green/yellow/orange/red one gets with aspen leaves

Later in the season we will post a “Best of Fall Colors” blog to pull together more of the auric autumn.  As usual, leave your comments below. Enjoy
